Andratx to Port Pollenca - Vanilla - through the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana
This is the most popular as well as the most direct route back to the North. 115km with 2,425m of climbing. This ride follows the famous ma-10 road which goes right through the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana. A brilliant day out.
Starting with the beautiful south west coastal section and continuing through Sóller and up Puig Major (the longest and highest climb on the island - 14 km @ 6.2% average gradient, 828m of elevation). Continue down through the two (now both with lights) tunnels past the aqueduct and it's café, past Lluc and descend the speedy Coll de Femenia with its smooth surface then all the way into old town Pollenca.
As you can see from the ride profile, most of the climbing is done in the first half of the ride. There are so many fantastic places to stop along the way to refuel and regroup it may be hard not to take on more calories than you expend.
Should you want to add any more distance to this route, there are plenty of opportunities, you can drop down to the sea at Cala Estellencs (+1.7km each way @ a 3% gradient) or Port des Canonge (4.6km each way @ a 7% gradient) or Port Valldemossa (5km each way @ a 7% gradient) or Sa Calobra (12.5km each way @ an average 6% gradient). The possibility also exists where instead of descending the Col de Femenia, you could go down into Caimari via the Coll de Sa Batalla and then follow the lanes back to Port Pollenca.
